San Francisco man rents his neighbor’s apartment on Airbnb through a fake name and then refuses to leave

A San Francisco resident allegedly duped his building co-owners into renting him their unit on Airbnb through a false identity and now refuses to leave, according to a complaint filed in San Francisco Superior Court.Michelle Huang and her boyfriend Thomas Payne bought three units, including a two-bedroom, in a six-unit tenancy-in-common building in Telegraph Hill in 2012 and live in a nearby apartment.Huang alleges that Sandeep Andre Hingorani, a fellow co-owner of the property who they’ve squabbled with for years, tricked them into letting him rent their two-bedroom unit for 60 days with two associates - his mother and friend - through a Airbnb user named ‘Jim Tako’.

The couple had been renting out two units on Airbnb, and due to regulations in San Francisco, they switched their rentals to last longer than a month because it’s difficult to rent out an entire home for less than 30 days. During the April and May rental, Huang and Payne never met Tako, only doing business through his two 'associates', according to the San Francisco ChronicleWhen the two months were almost finished, they were shocked when an attorney told them that Hingorani was the tenant and was converting his stay into an ongoing month-to-month tenancy - a right San Francisco residents have after a 30-day stay. The rent board approved Hingorani’s stay in the unit with his mother and friend, Piper Davis. The apartment was listed on Airbnb for but on the lease contract, Huang and Payne had left the rent amount blank, so the renters wrote in $3,256, and Huang didn't notice until the following day.

This Airbnb Is A True Work Of Art COMMENTS

Few historical figures embody the image of the "starving artist" the way Vincent van Gogh does. Sadly, it's also easy to picture how much better off the painter would be if he lived in the 21st century. After all, there are plenty of ways available for a guy to earn an extra buck while pursuing his art. Say, by renting his place out on Airbnb, for instance.

To promote the new exhibit, Van Gogh's Bedrooms, which opens on Sunday, the Art Institute of Chicago took this speculation one step further. The museum created a room to look like Van Gogh's immortalized chamber, which he painted three times in 1888 and 1889. And then, the museum made it available to rent on Airbnb.

"I'm charging $10 for no other reason than that I need to buy paint," the would-be host says in the space's profile. "However, I will be happy to provide you with tickets to my exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago."

Airbnb in Israel: A room with a view of idyllic Judea... or the occupied West Bank

gal Canaan, a Jewish settler and Airbnb host, threw open the doors of his apartment to reveal a panorama of blue sky and wilderness. Once they see the view, “nobody wants to talk politics”, he said.
“In the morning, you can see shepherds with their flocks,” he said, pointing out a village associated with the birth of the prophet Jeremiah. “The view is totally biblical.” All this, plus pool, kitchenette, fast wi-fi and maybe a “welcome” bottle of wine, just 20 minutes from Jerusalem, for about £56 per night. Guest reviews call it awesome – but according to Palestinians, it is also wrong.

The Palestinian Authority has said offering vacation rentals in Jewish homes in the occupied West Bank, through US-based sites such as Airbnb, Booking.com and TripAdvisor, violates international law. The cottages and villas are not in Israeli “neighbourhoods”, as some listings suggest, but in Jewish settlements that most of the world consider illegal and the US calls “unhelpful” to the peace process. Not a typical holiday, then.

This ‘Netflix and Chill’ themed apartment on Airbnb is as crazy as it sounds

We’ve seen quirkier Airbnb listings before, but a new ‘Netflix and Chill’ themed apartment in New York City might be the most interesting take on apartment rentals we’ve seen yet. What began as something of an art project has apparently turned into a bizarre money-making venture. And it can be all yours for just $400 a night.

The appropriately named “Netflix and Chill” Airbnb room brings the famed meme to life and is everything you might expect. There’s a bed draped with a Netflix branded blanket and accompanied by, you guessed it, two Netflix branded pillows.

Cuba: Airbnb's fastest growing market

Since Airbnb launched in Cuba, the number of accommodation listings in the country has more than tripled.
According to a source at Airbnb, it took some of the home-sharing company's biggest markets – including San Francisco and Berlin – three years for the community to grow to 1000 listings. In Cuba, it took just two months.
About 40 per cent of Airbnb listings in Cuba are for Havana properties, with the rest spread over 30 locations including the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town of Trinidad and the beach haven of Varadero.

The existing network of "casas particulares" or private home rentals made Airbnb a natural fit for Cuba. Locals have a reputation as warm and welcoming hosts, and visitors to the Caribbean island
nation often report that the best Cuban food is served straight out of home kitchens.
